After my first 3 year rotation as a full-timed released mentor for new teachers, I chose to go back to the classroom at Newbury Park High School. My primary motivation was to experience a semester block schedule. Each teacher has three 95 minute classes and teaches an entire year's content in one semester. I wanted the extra time and the condensed schedule to attempt to put some of my ideas into practice to see if they could work. I became an active research educator. I wanted my classroom to be a think tank. It was very exciting for me, and for many of my students, as I routinely reminded them that we were conducting research.
During the two years at NPHS I kept an occasional blog where I posted brief articles on the classroom website, primarily focusing on reading and vocabulary acquisition. Most of these posts were written in 2004. They can be accessed using the drop menu under "Articles", then "Classroom Blog Posts," or simply using the links below:
